Currently (September 2003) no official SIG of the ACL is planned: the community established at the workshop is simply not large enough to take on the extra administrative burden. Therefore, there is no organizational structure, no president, no secretary, and no plans for nominating/electing such. You don't have to feel bad about having neglected to exercise your vote in yet another professional organization.

The primary goal of GEOBOF is to facilitate the free exchange of ideas and resources among researchers interested in the analysis of natural language text from a geographic perspective.

GEOBOF is not restricted to natural language processing/computational linguistics/human language technology researchers: we are open to those with related interests such as (historical) gazetteers, geographic information systems (GIS), spatio-temporal relations, information retrieval, information extraction, etc.

We proceed without a mailing list or other "push" methods, using the CGGR-L list and the webpage for GEOBOF-related announcements. We have established a members only page that is password protected. To obtain a username/password contact the organizers. There is already an unrestricted (but for now extremely sketchy) page for useful links, which may eventually be replaced by a Wiki.
