This CD is intended primarily for Unix users. Aside from the Watson directory, where self-extracting EXEs are also available, there is no support for DOS/Windows, and the only support for Mac users is that files like .emacs are systematically renamed doTemacs to give Macs a chance. The CD is in Joliet format, so systems with support for longer filenames and case sensitivity (Mac, Windows) should encounter only a few problems. Because support for symbolic links in these systems is spotty, many applications like browsers report empty files when they see a hyperlink to a symbolic link. TRANS.TBLs and other means of reducing the file system to 8.3 format were avoided because they would render the Makefiles useless. All file and directory names are case sensitive, and users of non-unix systems that run into problems will have to do their own renaming and edit the make/imake and script-driven stuff accordingly. From a Mac it may be necessary to launch the browser first and pull in the index files. When an HTML document refers to ps and pdf files, again you may need to launch the reader first.
